The Swan Hieroglyphs (LOST Bento 4)

by Pikko on February 23, 2010

Last week Debra from hapa bento contacted me, asking if I’d be willing to stray from my usual Tuesday LOST theme and do a dual LOST bento with her. Of course, this sounded really cool, so I had to say yes. We talked a bit. In the end, we turned our bento donkey wheel and jumped back to Season 2 in order to bring to you two bentos based on The Swan. Be sure to head on over to hapa bento to check out her half!

Swan Hieroglyphs Bento

I was going to do one with the 108 00 clock too, but ended up running out of time. (haha!!) If you’re a LOST fan and aren’t quite sure what this is since it’s been so long, these are the symbols that appeared on the clock twice during Season 2.

They first appeared during Desmond flashbacks, when he realizes that when he went out to find the dude ripping off his boat, it made him late for pushing the buttons and therefore probably caused him to crash Oceanic Flight 815.

This was seriously one of the biggest heebie jeebie moments of LOST for me ever. You can see the hieroglyphs when Desmond runs back into the station. Here’s a close-up.

Hieroglyphs

I’d seen a really yummy post on foodgawker about pot roast quesadillas, so last night when Grandma J served up some pot roast, I knew that would make a great background for the bento. I cut it to fit the box and then ate the sides for breakfast. The glyphs are cut from cheese slices and there’s nori laid on top. I painted the red areas with food coloring and a toothpick.

A true hardcore LOST geek would know that these symbols translate into “underworld”. Other semi-hardcore LOST geeks like me go look it up on the LOST wiki and make like we already knew it.

The other time we saw these glyphs was at the end of Season 2 when John Locke wrecked the computer in the Swan and delivered one of the most hilarious lines of the season.

Oh, John.

Sadly, I didn’t get to see him on set while I was an extra. I really would have loved to see him in the flesh! Locke has always been one of my favorite characters, second only to Desmond and it was nice to watch a whole episode dedicated to him last week even though it’s just not quite the same, if you know what I mean.

Happy LOST viewing tonight!

I really love the LOST bentos that you do. This one is no exception! I’m going to cut over to see Hapa Bento’s, too. By the way, I’ve watched every episode, and I would never have remembered that the hieroglyphs meant “underworld.” Thanks for reminding me! Enjoy the show tonight!

I actually didn’t even know until I looked it up, hahaha!

Desmond’s my favorite character, too. :D

Anyway, these LOST Bentos are really cool! I love those hieroglyphs, they look perfect.

Thanks Emily! I know I said Locke is my second, but I forgot about Sawyer. So that makes John third. ;)
