GIVEAWAY: Hello, Cutie! Adventures in Cute Culture

Earlier this year I was interviewed for a book called Hello, Cutie!: Adventures in Cute CultureΒ and it just came out last month. The author, Pamela, wanted to know more about cute bentos and me and I obliged. As a result, two pages in the book contain a little interview with me and a write-up of charaben. Yay!

Hello Cutie

I was given two copies of the book. One for myself and one to give away. If you’d like to enter, I’ve set up five different ways for you to get an entry. Do one or do them all, it’s up to you! For the mandatory blog comment entry, simply tell me what’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen!

Giveaway ends next week on December 5, 2012. Open worldwide.

    Hi Pikko,

It has been a long time since I’ve logged in to catch up with your blog…. sorry about that. Looks like I’ve missed a lot. Congrats on being in the new book, the title is certainly appropriate for you and your Bentos! I thought you would like to know that after a long hiatus, I am now back to making my beloved bento lunches. I always have so many comments on them! From, “Your lunch boxes are always so adorable!” to “Where do you come up with those cute containers?” and “I can’t believe you made a calla lily out of a vegetable!” and my personal favorite, “Are you crazy? All that work for a lunch that will be gone in 30 minutes?!”

One of the cutest things I ever did see were the children in Okinawa.
On hot summer evenings they would go out with their parents and catch cicadas in nets. They would climb the trees on the sidewalk to try to get one. I never did find out how long they kept them, if they treated them like we treat our fireflies, but it was adorable to watch them, and listen to their giggles and happy voices during the big chase!
I also loved to watch them going to and coming home from school in their uniforms. Even the littlest ones, no more than 4 yrs old or so would be in miniature uniforms. They would have huge smiles and little backpacks, and sometimes would sing. So Adorable!!

The cutest thing I’ve ever seen would have to be the baby snow leopards at the zoo. I don’t know what it is about the snow leopards at my zoo but they just keep having adorable babies! They must really like each other!
