Mr. Cluck’s Bento Shack
I can’t remember where I saw it, but I read somewhere that this week was Hurley week, so I decided to go back to a non-nori cutout style. I’ve been going to that a lot recently when I can’t figure out what to make, but with Hurley it ended up being really simple to pick something normal. I didn’t have enough time to finish it this morning, so that’s why it’s late today and why it’s my dinner instead of my lunch. I was attending the Pac Rim Conference on Disabilities today and therefore got a free lunch.
While I was out, my blog hit 1 million!! I wasn’t expecting it until tomorrow, so that was a nice early surprise!

It’s a little obscure, but this is the mascot for Mr. Cluck’s Chicken Shack, which is the chicken joint that Hurley was working for when he won the lottery and eventually bought. And of course, what kind of Mr. Cluck’s bento would it be if I didn’t feature some fried chicken?
The chicken place that Hurley worked at was actually filmed at my friend’s restaurant, Popeye’s down by Dillingham. He’s got a picture with Jorge Garcia and stuff. So cool! I’ve seen him a couple times now, once at the Tale of Babar symphony thing that Michael Emerson narrated and then at the LOST premiere this January.
I cut the yellow, red, and white parts from white cheese and the beak from regular American cheese. I used a toothpick for the yellow, red, and black parts. I was too lazy to cut nori for the eye, so I just used more black food coloring. The chicken is just salted, peppered, dredged in flour, and fried in olive oil. I used one thigh.

I fell way behind on my Hoodlums, so here’s the latest photo of them. Tonkatsu decided to feed Kamaboko some edamame. I think the two are starting to fall for each other. Isn’t it cute?? ^_^

My name is Crystal Watanabe and I'm 32 years old, living in Honolulu, Hawaii with my husband and two children. I have an addictive personality and that's a terrible thing when you're into cute bentos. I own over 200 bento boxes and way too many bento accessories!.

Hi Pikko,
I live on the Big Island but will be traveling to LA and San Francisco this summer. Can you tell me where to go for the best bento supplies shopping?
I’m guessing Little Tokyo and Torrance in LA and Japantown in SF…anywhere else? Is there a place that you’d consider a MUST? can’t wait to hear from you…
