I don’t know how long this bento will last.

The other day, someone linked me to an article at the LA Times that said production for LOST wraps this week. I had thought that LOST had wrapped over a month ago, so I don’t know if they’re doing re-shoots or if I was just previously misinformed. This new info prompted me to get 8×10 photos of my Season 6 LOST bentos in the hopes that I could send it to Grass Skirt Productions to get them to the cast to get autographs.

Sadly, I keep forgetting to get everything in envelopes and so it’ll have to go out tomorrow. I just hope they don’t scatter like the day after production wraps, cause that would suck. I want more autographed bentos!!

Sayid Batteries Bento

I showed this bento to Mr. Pikko this morning and asked if he got it. He scrinched up his face a bit and then asked if it was because Sayid used batteries to torture people he interrogated.

*sigh*

Anyway, that’s why I added the text bubble. Someone had linked me to an image that I can’t seem to find right now, but it was basically a ton of screen caps of scenes where Sayid said the line, “I don’t know how long the batteries will last.” If you Google it, you’ll see there’s even a Facebook page about it. Update: I found the image!

Previously on LOST bentos…

The batteries are actually sushi rolls. I made sushi with some kim chee crab and then cut it in half. I took strips of golden soy paper and folded it so it was doubled, then secured it at the end of the rolls with toothpicks. I stuck alphabet pasta onto the rolls after dabbing some oil on to spell Duracell.

Sayid Batteries

Here’s a photo of the lunch without the bubble, in case any of you were wondering. On the side I have some guava pineapple teriyaki chicken and a strawberry. Sayid rests on top of some sesame choy sum. He was by far, the easiest character to cut out so far. I actually only had to do his eyes twice and the whole cutout took me less than half an hour. His left eye looks a little odd, but that’s still the best attempt I had this morning. Since I knocked out at 9:30 pm last night, I got up at 4:30 to do this bento.

I have no idea if this week is a Sayid episode, but since that FREAKY preview last week had Sayid doing THE UNTHINKABLE, he’s been on my mind. That guy better not do what they’re making us think he’s doing. I’m sure I’m not alone in being pouty about a lot of things this season, namely Lack of Desmond, Lack of Sawyer, and Weird Evil Sayid. These three things kind of suck and if it’s not one, it’s another, so hopefully in the next few week us girls get some reprieve from this torture.

I’m pretty mad that I forgot to put my Willy Wonka box of Everlasting Gobstoppers in the photo. I specifically went to Longs to find some Wonka candy. Bah! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s in referral to the use of Gene Wilder’s creepy tunnel song in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory used in last week’s preview. Seriously the creepiest preview ever. I couldn’t stop watching it.

I mentioned yesterday that I was going to be doing something new. That something new is a series of dishes that people can use for LOST series finale parties because let’s face it, this is a big deal. This is one of the biggest and most popular tv shows ever, surely if you’re a fan, you’ve thought about having a viewing party.

Lost Crostini

The first item in this series is an appetizer, LOST Crostini. And don’t worry, if you don’t know what crostini is, I didn’t either until Saturday. Basically, it’s little toasted pieces of bread with something nummy spread on top. The only thing is, I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to cut your baguette into such thick slices. I did this because I went the Costco route and had two baguettes that were almost as tall as my children, so in order to get it eaten before it turned into a rock, I cut very thick slices.

I chose to try goat cheese and prosciutto as  a topping, but in the end I didn’t care for it too much, so really you should just find a spread that you love and go with that. If you want to try this though, here’s the recipe.

LOST Crostini

Ingredients:

  • 1 baguette, sliced
  • 4 oz goat cheese or cream cheese
  • 3 slices prosciutto
  • nori

Instructions:

  1. Heat a pan on medium heat and cook the prosciutto for about 10 seconds on both sides, just as it begins to curl. Chop coarsely and then mince in a food processor.
  2. Add the goat cheese to the food processor and mix until well combined.
  3. Toast the slices of bread until golden brown and crusty. Spread cheese mixture on bread slices.
  4. Cut LOST letters from nori (or use reserved letters from LOST Spam Musubi) and add to top of crostini.

LOST Spam Musubi is something else that would make a great addition to a LOST party, so if you’re patient enough to do the nori cutting, be sure to serve that up, especially if you’re here in Hawaii. My family really loved them when we had them at the premiere. My extra friend Janice says she still has the one I gave her in my freezer, which is pretty gross, but still cool too.

Happy LOST viewing!

I have one of those $25 rice cookers that has the metal bowl that comes out for you to clean. I love it but I do want to upgrade. The rice cooker I have I think is tedius work to clean because it burns rice at the bottom of the bowl and I think if got a higher quality rice cooker I wouldn’t have such a problem and I would be more willing to cook rice every day. I have to let my bowl sit over night with water so I can scrub it off. Its a pain. Do you have any suggestions?
